Assessment Of Social Competence
The CASS is a direct observational assessment that examines social behavior and social cognition by observing real interactions rather than relying solely on rating scales. It is particularly useful for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) or other social communication challenges. I recommend CASS because it provides richer, more ecologically valid data on how students actually behave in social contexts — which can reveal strengths and needs that rating surveys might miss. Using such an observation-based tool helps teachers and professionals design more tailored interventions and track real-world social functioning over time.
