Teaching Learners With Special Needs

This section of my portfolio focuses on teaching students with exceptionalities. Learners with special needs come from diverse backgrounds and often require individualized approaches to instruction in order to succeed. As teachers, it is important to recognize the wide variety of exceptionalities, ranging from learning disabilities and attention difficulties to physical impairments and emotional or behavioral disorders. Each of these exceptionalities requires careful consideration when designing lessons, choosing resources, and assessing progress. The following subtabs include resources, explanations, and teacher insights that provide guidance for understanding exceptional learners, creating effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), differentiating instruction, and examining the ways that teachers adapt their practice using data-driven strategies.
